Vertical machining centers are one of the types of "machining centers". It is a machine evolved from a vertical milling machine, which can perform various cutting operations such as milling, drilling and finishing on one machine.
Vertical machining centers are particularly versatile and convenient to use. They are widely used in all industries and are the most widely used machine tools in the world!
A vertical machining center has a vertical structure with a vertical spindle (the axis of rotation of the cutting tool). The cutter is mounted vertically and the workpiece is cut from the top. It is suitable for mold processing that requires a large amount of top surface processing, as well as multi-variety and small batch production.
At present, the most commonly used vertical machining center is a three-axis machining center, which performs three-axis machining based on X, Y and Z axes, and can be divided into a table-driven type and a spindle-driven type.
Taking the horizontal machining center as a reference, the advantages and disadvantages of the vertical machining center are as follows:
Advantage:
1. The orientation of the drawing and the workpiece is the same, so it is easy to intuitively understand what is being processed.
2. The spindle is located at the top, which can save space and obtain a larger processing area.
3. Simple structure and low cost.
4. Cutting oil (coolant) can be easily sprayed on the machined surface.
Shortcoming:
1. Chips are easy to accumulate, causing machining defects.
2. Difficult to automate with APC (Pallet Changer).
Vertical Spindle No. 30 (#30)
Small vertical machining center with 30-gauge spindle. They are suitable for high speed machining but are not suitable for heavy duty cutting due to low holder holding force.
Vertical Spindle No. 40 (#40)
Medium-sized vertical machining center with 40-gauge spindle. They are widely used in tooling and automotive parts and have a good balance between shank retention and weight, making them highly versatile.
Vertical No. 50 spindle (#50)
Large vertical machining center with a No. 50 spindle. They are typically used for heavy-duty cutting of large workpieces, such as ferrous metals and cast iron. Features high shank retention for heavy duty cuts.
