Renishaw offers various types of linear scales for different applications, such as robust steel tape scales, high-accuracy linear hard scales, or low-expansion ZeroMet™ linear hard scales. The scales can be mounted mechanically or using the self-adhesive tape on the back of the scale.
These scales are compatible with Renishaw's range of open optical encoder readheads.
An absolute encoder can immediately decode its current position without any movement. In contrast, an incremental encoder can only detect motion relative to its current position or a known reference feature.
